HIS ORIGINS

Martín Berasategui Olazábal was born on April 27, 1960, in San Sebastián. He studied at the Capuchin Fathers School in Lekaroz, in the Baztan Valley (Navarra). At the age of thirteen, he began working in the family restaurant, Bodegón Alejandro. In 1979, he started his studies in hospitality at the modern pastry school of Yssingeaux, where he met various international chefs. In 1981, he became the head of Bodegón Alejandro, which received its first Michelin star in 1986. Finally, in 1993, he opened his first restaurant, called “Martín Berasategui”, in Lasarte-Oria.
